Sun April 27

Lonnie and I were up with Annslie quite awhile around daybreak, Mom n law sent us a drink recipe to try that a person doesn’t throw back up.

School and language class are canceled for the day to give our family a little more time to recuperate. Jaira is feeling better today so took up post on a chair in the living room next to Maddie on the couch and read Boxcar children aloud. Annslie is chipper as can be and I don’t know how!? Anyway, so some of us hadn’t gotten ready for the day yet and were just taking it real easy when we hear a man’s voice?! Lo and behold, our rickshawala friend has slid the dining room window open (there’s bars on all the windows) and is trying to get our attention! So Lonnie goes to the door and this man proceeds to walk right in! He wants to see the Bideshi’s basha(house)! Lonnie told him the girls were oshusto (sick) and he soon left and wanted Lonnie to go with him. I wish we’d been up to giving him an experience like he’d given Lonnie the day before… inviting him in and serving some Coke and “biscuits”.

He told Lonnie yesterday that he had no taka(money) but would not let Lonnie pay for the ride he’d given him! And when he was here today, he grabbed the broom and swept the driveway, then the hose and washed the dirt off the bushes next to the drive. He wanted to wash our van, “moyla”(dirty)!

So, a couple days ago Lonnie gave his friend Habib 3,000 taka($30 USD) for a transfer switch that we needed and Habib was gonna have his friend get it for us. Well, the part still wasn’t right. So Lonnie told Habib he’d take him to wherever the part was that is needed. When Habib showed up at the appointed time he had his brother with him also. “Because” he says, “of the times we’re in. With Lonnie being from America and Trump’s recent declaration of ‘No more American aid in Bangladesh’.” They drove about an hour south for the part. And encountered some tight traffic and a little drama. At one point in the tight traffic there was a man directing, Lonnie was turning and had a motorcycle right next to him. The director was motorcyclist to go and motioning for Lonnie to come. So Lonnie was concentrating on what the man directing traffic was motioning him to do and caught the motorcycle on the passenger side door and started tipping it over, the driver bailed, but there were many helping hands to hold the motorcycle up and hold the angry driver back while Habib told Lonnie to “Go!Go!”  He shouldn’t stay there, it wouldn’t be good. Lonnie was glad to have Habib with him!

Oh, and also worthy of mention, a bright spot, was that when Lonnie went to pay for the part, Habib says, “I pay the 1st 3,000 taka since I never got your money back to you from the other day.”😊 Lonnie didn’t know if he was remembering or not or if he would make it right.

Naton(interpreter) came for the eve.He brought fuska, visited, we pulled out a few snacks, had a sweet iced tea making demonstration and then pulled out the Skyjo cards and played Golf. An enjoyable evening😊
